What You Need to Prepare for Kitchen Respray Projects

Kitchen Respray Process & Customer Preparation Guide

    Customer Preparation Requirements

    • Kitchen must be fully cleared (worktops and floor space).
    • Surfaces must be cleaned and grease-free.
    • Cupboards/drawers must allow at least 6 inches of clearance inside.
    • Glass-fronted units must be emptied if being sprayed.
    • Appliances must be removed if access is required.
    • All colours must be confirmed at least 7 days prior.
    • New handles must be on-site, laid out per door, with correct screws.
    • Customer must be present on Day 1 to confirm handle positioning.

Important: Failure to meet these requirements may result in delays, additional charges, or rescheduling.

    Kitchen Respray Process

    Stage 1: Removal

    • Doors and drawer fronts are removed, labelled, and prepared for transport.
    • Handle positions are confirmed.

    Stage 2: Workshop Spraying

    • Items are degreased, sanded, filled, primed, and sprayed with two coats of primer and two top coats.

    Stage 3: On-Site Spraying

    • The kitchen is fully protected and sealed. Fixed elements are prepared and sprayed.
    • Kitchen access is restricted during working hours.

    Stage 4: Reinstallation

    • All items are refitted, and handles are installed.

    Stage 5: Handover

    • Final inspection completed and aftercare guidance provided.

    Additional Conditions

    • Appliances not removed will be worked around only.
    • Handle positions are final once installed.
    • No other trades allowed on-site during works.

Delays caused by others will incur additional charges.

    Door Handles

Please confirm prior to commencement whether you intend to retain your existing handles or install new ones.

    Existing Handles

    • If you are keeping your existing handles, we will remove them prior to spraying and set them aside.
    • Reinstallation of existing handles is included at no additional cost.

New Handles – Same Hole Positions

    • If new handles are being installed in the same existing hole positions, installation is included at no additional cost.
    • It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that:
      • The new handles match the existing hole centres exactly.
      • The correct screw lengths are supplied with the handles.

If suitable screws are not provided, we reserve the right not to install the handles or to supply and fit appropriate screws at an additional cost.

New Handles – Different Hole Positions

    • Where new handles require different hole positions:
      • Existing holes will need to be filled, surfaces prepared, and new holes measured and drilled.
      • This service is charged at £15 + VAT per handle.

    Handle Supply & Site Preparation

    • All new handles must be on-site before the agreed start date.
    • Handles must be clearly laid out per door/drawer prior to commencement.
    • All handles must be supplied with the correct fixings (screws of appropriate length).

    Positioning & Approval

    • Handle positions will be marked out on-site on the first day and agreed with the customer prior to drilling.
    • The customer (or appointed decision-maker) must be present on the first day to confirm positioning.
    • If no guidance or approval is provided, we will install handles in positions we deem appropriate based on our professional experience.
    • Once installed, handle positioning is final and not subject to change.

Any alterations requested after installation will incur additional charges.

    Colour Confirmation & Sample Options

    • Colour must be confirmed prior to the start date.

    Sample Options

    • 1L Sample – £45 + VAT (includes delivery)
    • Full Door Sample – £250 + VAT (Collection, preparation, spraying & return delivery)

    Durability

We use specialist coatings designed for busy kitchens — highly durable and long-lasting.

Protection of Surrounding Areas During Kitchen Resprays

As part of our kitchen respray process, all surrounding working areas will be carefully protected before any preparation or spraying begins. This includes the use of professional protection materials such as masking paper, low-tack masking tapes, and plastic sheeting to help safeguard nearby surfaces, appliances, worktops, flooring, walls, and other areas surrounding the kitchen.

We always use low-tack masking products designed to minimise the risk of damage when protection materials are removed. In the vast majority of cases, all masking and protection will peel away cleanly without issue.

However, in some instances, previously painted or poorly prepared surfaces may be unstable due to historic workmanship or underlying adhesion issues from previous decorating works. Where this occurs, there is a possibility that existing paint coatings may chip, lift, or peel when protection materials are removed. Unfortunately, this is outside of our control and is not caused by the kitchen respray process itself.

Should any remedial work be required to repair previously defective or unstable painted surfaces affected during the removal of masking materials, we would of course be happy to carry out these repairs; however, any additional remedial works would be chargeable accordingly.

    General Preparation

    • Furniture is to be organised by the customer prior to decorating.
    • Assistance with furniture relocation will incur a charge of £50 + VAT per hour per man, and we assume no liability for potential damage.
    • Large immovable items should be centrally placed.
    • Window treatments (e.g., blinds and curtains) should be removed beforehand, or this will also incur a charge of £50 + VAT per hour per man for removal and reinstallation.
    • All other trades must have completed their work before we start.
    • Radiator removal is not included within the quotation. If this is required the customer must arrange a plumber prior to the start date. SKC can remove and re-install radiators upon request though must be arranged prior to start date as the quotation will need to be updated.
    • Parking permits must be provided or will be charged at the local rate.
    • Waste removal is to be organised by the customer unless SKC is specifically requested to do so. If SKC removes waste, there will be a minimum charge of £120 + VAT to take it to the local landfill.

    Heating Requirements

    • As we move into the colder months, it is essential that adequate heating is provided in the areas where our team will be working. To ensure that paint and preparation materials dry and cure properly, the heating must be switched on and maintained during working hours (7:00am – 4:00pm) on each day our team is on site.
    • Maintaining a consistent temperature is crucial to achieving the best finish and long-term durability of the work. Please ensure this is arranged ahead of our arrival.

    Materials & Colours

Renner Paint Policy for Kitchen & Built-in Furniture Resprays

    • For all kitchen unit and built-in furniture resprays, we exclusively use Renner professional coatings.
    • This product has been tried, tested, and proven to deliver the best possible results in terms of durability, smoothness, and finish quality.
    • Renner paints also provide excellent colour accuracy and consistency when colour matched.
    • Customers are invited to choose any colour, and our team will professionally colour match it within the Renner system to ensure the closest possible result.
    • This specification forms part of our quality assurance process and is included in all quotations for kitchen and furniture spraying.
    • The material price is based on paint and preparation materials.
    • The quantities of paint listed are estimated for the chosen application method (brush, roller, or spray).
    • Any changes to these colours will require the quotation to be adjusted accordingly.
    • We require colour confirmation in writing (via the colour chart) no later than 10 days before the start date so we can order the correct quantities in time.
    • Colour charts are only sent to customers after deposits have been paid.

    Important Note on Other Trades

    • Our pricing is based on the assumption that all other trades have fully completed their work in the areas we are decorating. This allows us to complete your rooms in one visit to the highest standard.
    • If we need to return to re-do areas because other trades are still working, this creates extra time and costs that were not included in the original quotation. While we always aim to stick to the agreed price, repeated return visits will be charged based on the additional time spent.

    To avoid this:

    • Please contact us once all other trades have finished in a room to book us in.
    • We ask for as much notice as possible so we can plan our schedule.
    • This process ensures we can finish in one go, avoid unnecessary delays, and keep costs fair.

    Additional Notes

    • For kitchen work, please ensure the area is clean and not used for at least 2 hours before we arrive, so surfaces are dry and ready.
    • Kindly provide access to water, electricity, tool storage, and a toilet during our work.
    • For projects lasting more than a week, partial payments are required at the end of each week. Receipts will be provided, and your final invoice will be updated.
    • On the day of completion, you must be available to inspect the work and make the final payment.
    • If you are not available, we will provide videos of each area for your reference.
    • If you later request return visits for sign-off, these will be chargeable.

    Terms & Conditions

    Quotations

    1. Quotations are based on the information provided by the client and include materials, labour, and essential project management.
    2. The final price may vary based on Spray Kitchen Cabinets' (SKC) findings during the work (e.g., additional time or materials required).
    3. For additional work requests, an updated quotation will be provided, requiring written approval before commencement. While every effort will be made to complete work within the initial booking, additional work may necessitate scheduling on alternate dates.
    4. Quotations are valid for 30 days from the issue date and may be subject to change thereafter.
    5. A deposit of 35% of the original quotation is required before commencing work ("The Deposit"). The deposit secures the agreed start date. Failure to receive the deposit may result in postponement or cancellation.
    6. Deposits are non-refundable except under special circumstances.
    7. To change the agreed start date, a minimum of 4 weeks' notice is required.
    8. If the scope of work is reduced, the original deposit will be retained as compensation for loss of earnings. A revised quotation and deposit request will be issued, with any balance from the original deposit retained for loss of earnings. Refunds are discretionary based on individual circumstances.
    9. Clients are responsible for arranging parking or covering daily parking costs. Congestion charges, where applicable, must also be paid by the client.
    10. All deposits and final invoices must be settled directly, including insurance-related work.

    Products & Materials

    1. Colour charts will be sent once the deposit is paid. Written confirmation of colour choices is required 10 business days before the start date to ensure timely ordering.
    2. SKC will supply up to three colour samples included in the price, deliverable within five working days after the deposit is received. Additional samples can be requested at cost.
    3. Requests for multiple colours in different areas (e.g., ceilings, walls, or woodwork) will incur an additional charge of £75 + VAT per colour change. Changes to colour choices after application begins will result in additional charges.
    4. SKC may use client-supplied paint if in suitable condition. Quotations are based on trade paint brands, requiring two coats unless specified.
    5. Designer paints or bold colours may require extra coats, subject to additional charges.
    6. Preparation materials and surface protection (e.g., filler, caulk, sandpaper) are mandatory and supplied by SKC.

    Customer Responsibilities

    1. Clients must arrange access to hot & cold water, electricity, tool storage, and functioning toilet facilities.
    2. Clients are responsible for removing furniture and valuables from the work area.
    3. Assistance with furniture relocation will incur a charge of £50 + VAT per hour per man and assume no liability for potential damage.
    4. Large immovable items should be centrally placed, and appliances near the work area must be relocated. Window treatments (e.g. blinds and curtains) should also be removed in advance or will incur the same charge of £50 + VAT per hour, per man to remove and reinstall.
    5. For kitchen or bathroom work, areas must be clean, dry, and ready before SKC's arrival. Floors should be free of dust, debris, and pet hair.
    6. For areas with new plaster or carpentry, imperfections beyond minimal levels must be addressed by the client's tradesperson or will incur additional charges if rectified by SKC.
    7. Leak restoration work requires the leak to be resolved prior to decoration. Repaired surfaces will be finished to the highest standard possible.

    During Work

    1. Exterior work schedules depend on weather conditions, as assessed via the BBC Weather app. Work may be delayed or adjusted to accommodate weather suitability.
    2. Dustless sanding equipment is used, but some dust may still occur. Work areas will be cleaned regularly, and tools will be stored neatly.
    3. SKC is not liable for paintwork damage during or after work completion unless arising from workmanship faults. Touch-ups may incur charges.
    4. All other tradesmen's work must be completed before SKC begins. Delays should be communicated at least two weeks in advance.

    Limitations & Client Acknowledgements

    1. SKC guarantees workmanship but does not provide formal guarantees for paintwork due to uncontrollable factors. Paint adhesion or craftsmanship issues will be addressed without charge. Damage caused by clients or external factors may incur repair fees.
    2. Maintenance recommendations include cleaning painted surfaces with a damp, lint-free cloth. Kitchen areas may experience discolouration due to oils and spices despite precautions.
    3. If designer paints are requested, they may require additional coats, and this will need to be updated and agreed upon before the additional work is completed. Designer paints are not covered under our workmanship guarantee.
    4. Unless specifically requested, the internal surfaces of cabinets, doors, and radiators are excluded from quotations.

    Final Invoicing

    1. For projects exceeding five working days, a payment schedule will be established, with partial payments required weekly. Payment requests will be sent via email, along with updated invoices and receipts.
    2. Final payment is due upon work completion. Clients must review and settle the final invoice on the completion day. Payments are accepted via bank transfer or cash; cheques are not accepted.
    3. Payments must be completed within 7 working days. Unpaid balances will incur a £100 late payment charge for every 30-day period of delay. Persistent non-payment may result in legal or collection actions.

    Signing Off

    1. All completed work will be inspected under natural daylight conditions and assessed from a distance of approximately 1 metre, in line with recognised decorating standards (see British Standard BS 6150: Code of Practice for Painting of Buildings). Minor surface imperfections visible only under artificial light, magnification, or close scrutiny will not be considered workmanship defects.
    2. SKC's 5-Year Guarantee covers workmanship and issues arising from the paint spraying process but excludes general wear, tear, and damage caused by external factors. The guarantee does not cover kitchens with wraps or laminates unless explicitly agreed upon, nor does it cover water damage.
    3. Waste removal is the client's responsibility unless otherwise arranged with SKC for a minimum charge of £120 + VAT.
    4. Images of completed work may be used for marketing purposes unless the client opts out.
    5. SKC maintains a zero-tolerance policy for abuse towards staff and reserves the right to cancel work agreements on this basis.

By accepting the quotation, the client agrees to these terms and conditions. The director reserves the right to determine additional terms as necessary.
