## Complete Your Kitchen With New Worktops

A kitchen respray transforms your cabinets — but pairing it with new or refurbished worktops takes the transformation to another level. We advise on, source, and coordinate worktop refurbishment or full replacement as part of a seamless kitchen makeover.

Whether you're looking to restore existing surfaces, upgrade to premium materials like quartz or granite, or switch to a warm solid wood finish, we connect you with trusted London suppliers and manage the process from consultation to completion.

Worktop replacement is most popular alongside our [full kitchen respray service](/services/full-kitchen-respray). Coordinating both ensures your new worktops perfectly complement your resprayed cabinets — creating a cohesive, designer-quality kitchen.

## Why Worktops Matter After a Respray

Once cabinets have been resprayed, the worktop becomes the most noticeable remaining surface in the room. A scratched laminate, a dulled granite or a water-stained timber top will undermine an otherwise flawless finish, because the eye is drawn straight to the one element that has not been renewed. Bringing the worktop up to the same standard is what completes the transformation.

Worktops also set the tone for the colour scheme. A cool white quartz will push cabinet colours towards a crisp, contemporary read; a warm brown granite or oiled oak pulls the same cabinets towards something more traditional. We look at the two together rather than in isolation so the finished kitchen is coherent.

Practically, worktops take more abuse than any other kitchen surface. Heat, water, acidic spills, knives and heavy pans all land here, so material choice should follow how you cook and clean as much as how you want the room to look.

## Refurbishment or Replacement?

Refurbishment is often the sensible route. Solid timber worktops can be sanded back and re-oiled to look essentially new, and light surface scratching on stone can frequently be polished out. If the substrate is sound and the damage is cosmetic, restoring what you already have is faster, cheaper and far less wasteful than replacing it.

Replacement makes more sense when there is structural damage: swollen laminate around a sink cut-out, cracked stone, deep burns, or joints that have failed and are letting water in. It is also the right call when the layout is changing, when you want a different edge profile, or when the existing top is simply the wrong colour for the new scheme and no amount of refinishing will fix that.

We give you an honest assessment at the estimate stage. If your worktop can be saved, we will tell you so rather than selling you a replacement you do not need.

## Worktop Materials Compared

Quartz is engineered stone: non-porous, highly scratch and stain resistant, and consistent in pattern from slab to slab. It needs no sealing and is the low-maintenance choice for busy family kitchens. It is less tolerant of direct heat than granite, so trivets are still required.

Granite is natural stone, exceptionally hard-wearing and heat resistant, with variation in every slab that many homeowners prefer to the uniformity of quartz. It requires periodic sealing to keep it stain resistant, particularly in lighter colours.

Solid wood brings warmth that stone cannot replicate and is the natural partner for painted shaker kitchens in period London homes. It needs oiling once or twice a year and careful management around sinks, but it can be sanded and refinished repeatedly over its life, which no other material offers. Marble-effect quartz gives the veined look of marble with none of its porosity, and composite and high-pressure laminate remain strong budget options with a far better appearance than they had a decade ago.

## How We Coordinate the Work

Worktop work is most popular alongside a full kitchen respray, and coordination is where most kitchen projects go wrong. Templating cannot happen until the units are level and fixed, fabrication takes time after templating, and cabinets should be finished before a new top is craned into place. We sequence these stages so the trades do not clash and you are not left with a kitchen out of action for weeks.

We advise on materials, arrange samples so you can see them against your chosen cabinet colour in your own light, and manage the process with trusted London suppliers and fabricators from consultation through templating, fabrication and installation.

Sinks, taps, hobs and upstands are all considered as part of the specification, since cut-outs must be agreed before fabrication begins. Getting these decisions made early is the difference between a smooth installation and an expensive remake.

## Frequently Asked Questions

### Can my existing worktop be refurbished instead of replaced?

Often yes. Solid timber can be sanded and re-oiled, and light surface scratching on stone can usually be polished out. We assess the surface at the estimate stage and tell you honestly which route makes sense.

### Which worktop material is best for a family kitchen?

Quartz is usually the most practical: non-porous, scratch and stain resistant, and requires no sealing. Granite is a strong alternative if you prefer natural variation and greater heat resistance.

### Do worktops need to be replaced before or after the cabinets are sprayed?

We sequence the work so units are level and fixed before templating, and cabinets are finished before installation. Coordinating both together avoids clashes and keeps the kitchen out of action for as little time as possible.

### Do you supply the worktops yourselves?

We advise on materials, arrange samples and manage the process with trusted London suppliers and fabricators from consultation through to installation.

### How much maintenance does a solid wood worktop need?

Oiling once or twice a year and care around sink areas. In return, timber can be sanded and refinished repeatedly, which stone and laminate cannot.
